LIBRARIES ROCK! - 2018 Summer Reading Club for Children
Visit the Reading Rehearsal Room often to record your reading progress and pick up the incentives that you earned!

When: Monday, July 2, 2018 - 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Where: Reading Rehearsal Room

Your Conductors Mrs. Carol Siefken, Julia Snyder, and Mary Federline will give you the instruments you need to rock the rhythm of reading this summer. All library staff members are eager to help you hit the right notes with reading!

Reading Rehearsal Room Hours (The Reading Rehersal Room closes 30 minutes before the Library closes.):
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Independent readers, including teens, are Reading Rock Stars this summer as they make reading their forte. Reading Rock Stars earn activity pages and coupon incentives.

Children who are not yet reading independently are Little Listeners in the Read-to-Me Club. Four hours of shared reading and listening earns a Congratulations Packet with coupon rewards, a participation certificate, an End-of-Summer Party invitation, and a chance to win a Strider™ 12 Sport Balance Bike, designed for young children.

COWBOY PRIDE by Lacy Williams (Book 3 in the Wild Wyoming Hearts series)

When: Monday, July 9, 2018 - Till July 23
Where: On Overdrive, our ebook platform

Big Library Read is an international reading program that connects millions of readers around the world simultaneously with an eBook or eAudioBook through the library. Readers can join an online conversation about the book at BigLibraryRead.com. This free program runs for two weeks and to get started reading, all that is needed is a Westmoreland Library Network library card

Cowboy Pride by Lacy Williams can be read on all major computers and devices. No wait lists or holds are needed! Since there's no limit to the number of copies available (this title only), everyone can checkout this eBook/eAudioBook at the same time. They automatically expire at the end of the lending period, and there are no late fees.

Dog Reading Pals
Read to your favorite furry friend at this evening session.

When: Wednesday, July 11, 2018 - 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Where: The Library

What?  Dogs can't read!  Of course they can't, but they are great listeners.  Reading to dogs helps children read at their own pace.  Join us on Wednesday, July 11 and and take your turn reading to a dog pal.  This is a great way to encourage new readers!

Great performers and refreshments on select Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00 PM.

Grant Impersonator Kenneth Serfass Will Bring Grant to Life for Us

When: Wednesday, July 18, 2018 - 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Where: Murrysville Community Library Conference Room

The Library will be hosting a program by Kenneth Serfass who is a Ulysses S. Grant impersonator on Wednesday, July 18 between 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. This program will be open to children and adults

Gunnery Sgt Kenneth J. Serfass was born in Bethlehem, PA on June 18th, 1966. He joined the USMC in 1984 and his final tour was with the First Marine Division Band during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired from the Marine Corps in July of 2004 to become a music teacher.
Ken was a civil war reenactor and now is a first-person impressionist with over forty years of study of his self-avowed childhood hero U.S. Grant. He has created a nitch as a full time professional living historian portraying Ulysses S. Grant. He keeps the Facebook page, “U.S. Grant in living history," to document his travels and adventures.

A new, Library-sponsored book group held during daytime hours.

When: Thursday, July 19, 2018 - 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Where: Murrysville Community Library Conference Room

Our new daytime book club will continue on July 19 at 11:00 a.m. and then will meet on the third Thursday of each month at the same time. The book selected for the July meeting will be When the Killing's Done by T. C. Boyle. Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk.

Applebee's Dining to Donate Program allows everyone to "Enjoy A Meal That's Filling and Fulfilling" by eating in or trying their Carside to Go service. Applebee's will donate to the Library 15% of total sales to Murrysville Community Library supporters on June 26, 2018.
