HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY
Presented by Blackburn Center, provider of services to those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes.

When: Wednesday, February 6, 2019 - 6:00 p.m. -7:30 p.m.
Where: Murrysville Community Library Conference Room

Blackburn Center is partnering with Murrysville Community Library to bring awareness about human trafficking to both community members and professionals. The program will focus on helping attendees understand how human trafficking presents itself in Westmoreland County, and how to identify and respond to victims of human trafficking. The program is free to attend. Registration is requested, but not required for the event; click here to register or call the Library at 724-327-1102

Conservative estimates relay that human trafficking enslaves an average of 21 million people a year worldwide. Victims are exploited for either sex or labor, sometimes both. Contrary to popular belief, human trafficking is occurring in Westmoreland County. The public, who either do not believe that human trafficking exists or do not know how they can help, often overlooks victims. Victims fall through the cracks of the system when service providers and the justice system do not recognize the experiences of these victims. Many victims of human trafficking end up jailed or returning to their traffickers. This program hopes to bring awareness to individuals, and invites persons from all professions and lifestyles to learn how they can work to eradicate modern-day slavery happening here in Westmoreland County. A question and answer session will follow.

Blackburn Center provides services to those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes. Services are confidential, available at no cost, and can be sought anonymously. A 24-Hour Hotline is available at 1.888.832.2272. The hearing impaired may use VRS to call the hotline.
